One thing that you may not even think about when you’re moving to a new area is how the garbage works. There are things you need to know about this, though. For example, you’ll need to know what types of containers are acceptable, if there is a weight limit, what days they come, and more. Following is a little about how Cincinnati trash collection works.
Carts and Days
First off, you need to find out if or how your city issues garbage cans to residents. For the city to pick it up, you may need to have a city-issued trash cart. If it’s in any other kind of can, they may not empty your trash. You may be able to request different sizes if you need larger bins. Since these are loaned to you by the city, you should take good care of them so that you won’t have to pay to replace it. For example, if a wheel breaks off, or the lid doesn’t fit, or you spray painted the can, you may have to pay for a new one. You’ll then need to find out what your pickup day is for garbage. You can do this by visiting the city’s website or calling a city office. They will tell you what time to put the garbage out. You will also need to plan around holidays. Try to keep your disposal at a minimum when the trash won’t be collected for a while.
Next, you need to know what’s allowed in these carts. You may have experienced a time when the garbage truck came but left your full can sitting by the curb. This may be because you had yard waste or debris from remodeling in your garbage bin. Additionally, you should avoid putting hazardous waste in the garbage. As for recyclables, see if your city has a recycling program and if there is a separate cart for that. They may accept paper, plastic, glass, or aluminum.
Last, your city may be able to help you with the waste that the garbage service does not collect. For instance, if you place your yard waste in a clearly marked can or in a biodegradable brown paper bag, they will collect this type of waste periodically. If you have other materials you need to get rid of, or if your city doesn’t even offer Cincinnati trash collection services, you may need to hire a commercial waste hauler.
